Collage : build your world
Collage with photos by Jennifer Harley + Maurice Harris.
“When you’re writing, you’re trying to find out something which you don’t know. The whole language of writing for me is finding out what you don’t want to know, what you don’t want to find out. But something forces you to anyway.” - James Baldwin
Collage : light / dark
Cutting intimately and precisely. Filling the darkness with light.
Original images by Texas Isaiah & Maurice Harris.
An Ode to Norman Lewis
Until I’m back in the studio (after this damn architecture license exam), this Ode to Norman Lewis will have to come in the form of procreate paintings. Exploring colors and compositions.
I had the pleasure of visiting the SFMOMA this past weekend & was blessed by this painting by Norman Lewis. He inspires me for many reasons, but one that comes to the forefront is his emotive abstraction. His experience as a Black man in Harlem resonates through all his work so strongly & poetically. He’s able to say so much with seemingly so little. It inspires me to explore colors in my work & not be afraid of what it might tell me.
