Spaces & Places I love #plants
I’m working on an affordable housing project in the Tenderloin in San Francisco where these photos were taken. The neighborhood is tough, and going in the building can be very emotional to see people really struggle. But coming up to this little haven at the courtyard reminds me of how even in what can be a tough environment, they’re able to craft beauty and bring life into their spaces. I appreciate people who make space for the elements to cultivate life around them. It’s an honor to work with them and see those sparks of joy even if they’re few and far between. Being an architect on these types of projects is challenging, but if I don’t do anything else, I want to honor the spaces that they themselves have curated and manifested into their home.
Spaces & Places I love #light
The angle.
The color.
The tone.
The warmth.
The life it brings is everything.
In the pocket.
Experimenting with lino-cut. When I get in the groove it feels like I really got it right. And I love catalogues, so it’s fun to make multiples & make each one a little different. Shoutout to Kawena for being a great teacher & for Artists & Craftsman in SF for having everything 50% off when they were closing. (Really a bummer cause that spot was A1)
Collage experiments
When in doubt I just try to make something. Sometimes it’s good, other times not. I’m experimenting with collage to try and capture the universe as I experience it. This project started as a vision board & as an exercise to practice processing my experience using this medium. Shoutout to Simone for sharing this idea & to Lauren for hosting a vision board party that inspired the first pages.
Returning to my comfort zone of filling space with waves.
Comfort zone juxtaposing me confronting trypophobia?
