As I move into a new studio space, I’ve been feeling extreme gratitude for the resources and opportunities that led me to find my space for creative freedom & experimentation. Moving into my new space, someone asked me “What kind of art do you do?” & typically that question makes me uneasy, then I respond with “A little of everything”. The uncertainty gave had me feeling anxious and unworthy of calling myself an artist, but as time goes on I’m learning to find ease in the unknown. These days I’m just grateful for the space to explore, experiment, and expand my curiosities without the labels that define my expression. The easy & uneasy comes in waves, but I’m noticing the easy waves are longer and more frequent, which is all I can ask for. I’m also eternally grateful for the people I love that have shown me that “A little bit of everything” is a good thing & for holding space for me in many different ways.
Special thanks to my friend and mentor David for holding space for and sharing space with me. And to Mikael & all the painters, makers, and ceramicists that made me feel at home in my Berkeley studio.
